S-010 - 14 oz - organic cotton - natural indigo selvage denim
antique-blue selvage denim with white-brown selvage
1 × 50 cm = 50 cm Gesamtlänge
This naturally indigo-dyed selvage denim from Japan weighs 14 oz and is made from high-quality organic cotton. It represents substance, depth, and a deliberately bold surface effect – ideal for durable jeans, dresses, bags, and jackets with a distinctive character.
When new, unwashed denim is firm, grippy, and textured. The clearly visible texture and the slightly roughened surface give the fabric a vibrant, almost tactile presence. This rougher surface enhances the authentic look and creates a particularly distinctive feel.
With wear, the material develops a noticeable suppleness without losing its robust structure. The dark natural indigo tone forms the basis for high-contrast, expressive washes. The more pronounced texture makes creases and signs of wear stand out prominently – a patina with depth and individuality.
The fabric is produced at Nihon Menpu in Ibara – a region steeped in tradition for high-quality Japanese selvage denim. There, fabrics with artisanal authenticity and a clear material identity are created on classic shuttle looms.
At 14 oz, this denim has a substantial weight, yet remains manageable with a well-adjusted domestic sewing machine. A size 90-100 jeans needle is recommended; for multi-layered flat-felled seams, a reduced sewing speed is advised.
The last photo shows, as an example, the development of the fabric over a longer period of wear - a deep, high-contrast wash that impressively highlights the structure and the dark natural indigo.

Please do not wash the denim before processing. As an unwashed "raw selvage" fabric, it only develops its characteristic structure and fit through wear.
Wash the finished garment only after it is completely sewn. The respective shrinkage values for length and width should therefore be taken into account during pattern construction and size planning.
