S-028 - 22.3 oz - heavy weight, natural indigo selvage denim
dark indigo-blue selvage denim with white-red selvage edge
1 × 50 cm = 50 cm Gesamtlänge
This 22.3 oz selvage denim from Japan is manufactured by Nihon Menpu in Ibara and features a classic white and red selvedge. Its extremely high weight makes the fabric particularly strong and robust – a challenge for any processing, but one that is rewarded with unique, high-contrast fading.
When new, the denim appears very firm, stiff, and dimensionally stable. This high-quality raw material gives it a substantial feel that only softens slightly over time. The surface, however, retains a subtle texture and, with wear and washing, develops striking, distinctive indigo fading effects that give the fabric a vibrant and characterful appearance.
The white and red selvedge adds a classic detail that blends harmoniously into designs, while the denim's extreme density and weight make projects particularly durable and expressive. Despite its demanding construction, the fabric is suitable for jeans, jackets, or accessories where character, contrast, and substance are paramount.
For processing, an industrial sewing machine or a well-adjusted, particularly powerful domestic machine is recommended. A jeans needle size 100 or higher and a slow sewing speed for multi-layered flat-felled seams will help to achieve precise seams.
The last photo exemplifies the natural development of the fabric over a longer period of wear – the strong contrasts of the fadings unfold an impressive, individual patina that perfectly underlines the extreme character of this heavy denim.

Please do not wash the denim before processing. As an unwashed "raw selvage" fabric, it only develops its characteristic structure and fit through wear.
Wash the finished garment only after it is completely sewn. The respective shrinkage values for length and width should therefore be taken into account during pattern construction and size planning.
