Jeans hardware: The perfect details for your denim project
You’ve found the perfect denim, the pattern fits – but a true pair of jeans is only complete with the right hardware. Sturdy metal zippers, heavy-duty buttons, characteristic rivets, and the perfect thread turn a simple sewing project into a durable garment that can easily compete with premium store-bought brands. Discover what matters when it comes to these small, metallic details.
Sustainability in denim is made up of several factors. These include the cultivation of raw materials (avoiding pesticides through organic cotton), the use of recycled fibers, water-saving indigo dyeing, and the reduction of chemicals throughout the entire supply chain.

It is often even higher quality! Since organic cotton is usually hand-picked and not chemically defoliated, the cotton fibers remain longer and more intact. This results in a softer, yet extremely durable and tear-resistant yarn that is perfect for premium selvedge denim.

In this process, old jeans (post-consumer) or production waste (pre-consumer) are mechanically shredded and spun back into new yarn. To ensure the necessary tensile strength for the loom, these recycled fibers are then usually mixed with fresh organic cotton.

Absolutely. Whether the fabric was dyed with natural plant-based indigo or with modern, eco-friendly synthesized indigo (which requires significantly less water for dyeing) – the color only coats the yarn core. As you break them in, exactly the same sought-after contrasts and fades will emerge.

Sustainability doesn't end with buying the fabric, but continues with its care. Wash your eco-jeans as rarely as possible. If they must go in the machine, use low temperatures (cold or 30 degrees) and dry them exclusively in the fresh air. This saves a tremendous amount of energy and is gentle on the natural fibers.
