This natural indigo-dyed selvage denim from Japan in a classic mid-blue shade weighs 12 oz and combines versatility with noticeable character. It is ideal for jeans, jackets, or overshirts that are intended to show a balanced substance and a lively surface.
In its new condition, the unwashed denim presents itself as shape-retaining, slightly grippy, and with a deliberately noticeable structure. The surface is somewhat rougher and shows a subtly pronounced texture that gives the fabric depth and authenticity. With increased wear, the material becomes more supple and develops an individual adaptation to the body and movement.
The natural indigo-dyed mid-blue shade develops characteristic fades over time with differentiated light-dark contrasts. Due to the more visible structure, creases and traces of wear stand out vividly - a denim that continues to develop its story with every wear.
The fabric is made by Nihonmenpu in Okayama - one of the most renowned regions for high-quality selvage denim in Japan. On traditional shuttle looms, fabrics with an authentic feel and an expressive surface effect are produced there.
The 12 oz selvage can be processed without problems with a well-adjusted, household sewing machine. A jeans needle in strength 80-90 is usually sufficient; for multi-layered flat-felled seams, a reduced sewing speed is recommended.
The last photo shows exemplarily the development of the fabric over a longer wearing time - a lively, high-contrast patina that particularly emphasizes the structure of this mid-blue natural indigo denim.

Please do not wash the denim before processing. As unwashed "raw selvage," the fabric only develops its characteristic structure and fit through wear.
Wash the finished garment only after complete assembly. The respective length and width shrinkage values should therefore be taken into account during pattern making and sizing planning.
