S-028 - 22.3 oz - heavyweight, natural indigo selvage denim
Dark indigo-blue selvage denim with a red-and-white woven edge
1 × 50 cm = 50 cm Gesamtlänge
This 22.3 oz selvage denim from Japan is made by Nihon Menpu in Ibara and features a classic white and red woven selvedge. With its extremely high weight, the fabric is particularly strong and robust – a challenge for any processing, but one that is rewarded with unique, high-contrast fading.
In its new condition, the denim feels very firm, stiff, and shape-retaining. This intense raw material quality gives it a massive substance that only gradually adapts over time. Nevertheless, the surface is slightly textured and shows impressive, striking indigo fading effects over time through wear and washing, making the fabric appear lively and full of character.
The white and red woven selvedge adds a classic detail that blends harmoniously into designs, while the extreme density and weight of the denim make projects particularly durable and expressive. Despite the demanding processing, the fabric is suitable for jeans, jackets, or accessories where character, contrast, and substance are paramount.
For processing, an industrial sewing machine or a well-adjusted, particularly powerful domestic machine is recommended. A size 100 or larger jeans needle and a slow sewing speed for multi-layered felled seams help to achieve precise seams.
The last photo exemplificationally shows the natural development of the fabric over a long period of wear – the strong contrasts of the fading develop an impressive, individual patina that perfectly underscores the extreme character of this heavy denim.

Please do not wash the denim before processing. As unwashed "raw selvage," the fabric only develops its characteristic structure and fit through wear.
Wash the finished garment only after complete assembly. The respective length and width shrinkage values should therefore be taken into account during pattern making and sizing planning.
